SR-112 / I-195 Rehabilitation (Miami, FL)

The improvements under this contract consisted of widening, bridge repair/rehabilitation on SR 112 (I-195) from NW 10th Avenue to Biscayne Bay. Work included concrete pavement (new and restoration), retaining walls (cast in place, soldier pile/lagging, sheet pile and MSE), ITS, signalization and roadway lighting. Bridges construction included foundations of steel pipe piles and pre-stressed concrete piles, mass concrete substructure and Type II, III and IV pre-stressed concrete beams. The limited space between the right of way and limits of construction served as the primary challenge on the project. SR-112 (I-195) being a major thorough fare in urban Miami, proper traffic control and detour planning was required with not only the Department but with the City. A high strength early break concrete pavement mix was used for the nighttime pavement rehabilitation activity which allowed the traffic to travel on it the following morning.

Condotte’s partnership with the Owner and community stakeholders resulted in the temporary openings of the North Miami Avenue Exit Ramp during the Art Basel and Wynwood Art Festival events. Condotte was able to reschedule its work to accommodate these special requests. The project was recognized in 2013 with the FTBA “Best in Construction for Bridge Work” award.
