This new bridge project incorporated a high-level pre-cast segmental bridge over the St. Lucie River in Stuart, Florida. The superstructure of the twin bridges consists of two 61 foot wide single-cell girders, accommodating six 12 foot traffic lanes, two 8 foot wide shoulders, and one, 5 foot wide walkway. The Foundations were constructed with 30-inch square concrete piles. The substructure consists of mass concrete footings, rectangular columns, and flared pier caps ñ all constructed with cast-in-place concrete. The 1,112 pre-cast concrete bridge segments were erected with balanced cantilevers, using an overhead self-launching truss. Condotte self-performed all segmental concrete bridge activities including casting yard, segment erection and substructure work. The project was recognized in 1998 with the FTBA “Outstanding Major Bridge Project” and the 1998 PCA “Concrete Bridge Award of Excellence” awards.
