The SR-836 Infrastructures Modifications for Open Road Tolling (ORT) East Section project includes the necessary infrastructure modifications to support the Open Road Tolling (ORT) conversion of SR 836 between NW 62nd Avenue and I-95 and all the civil work necessary to accommodate the System Integrator’s ORT tolling equipment while preserving MDX’s aesthetic and functional requirements, including the removal and conversion of the existing mainline toll plaza at NW 17th Avenue and the implementation of ten (10) additional ramp tolling locations. The scope of work comprises the installation of gantries, ORT toll equipment including buildings and shelters, ITS, overhead signing, lighting, and the reconstruction of the SR 836 roadway to accommodate highway-speed vehicle traffic thru the former toll plaza areas for the implementation of the ORT design.
This project is unique in that existing structural features at the existing mainline toll plaza, including the existing eastbound and westbound pylons, are being reused to the greatest extent possible while preserving MDX’s aesthetic and functional requirements.
