Acosta Bridge (Jacksonville, FL)

MasTec Civil’s first trademark of excellence, the Acosta Bridge was the cornerstone to what the company is today. The project earned the “Florida Transportation Builders Association’s Outstanding Major Bridge Project” and the “Cement Association’s Concrete Bridge Award for Excellence”. The structure is a dual concrete segmental, continuously post-tensioned box girder bridge over the St. John’s River. The method of construction was cast-in-place, balanced-cantilever with a center span of 630 feet in length. The structure has a clear height of 75 feet above the river. Each bridge carries 3 lanes of traffic, together with a lane for a future automated tram or people mover. The project was recognized in 1994 with the PCA “Concrete Bridge Award of Excellence” and the 1995 FTBA “Outstanding Major Bridge Project” awards.
